Dustin Johnson won at the 116th Golf US Open at the Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania on Sunday, June 19. Johnson completed his two rounds on Friday, before winning his third round on Saturday evening.
For the final two hours, Johnson didn’t know will be penalized for his 5-hole mishap. Initially, he was told that he won’t be penalized, but USGA officials controversially changed their mind and stated they will make a final decision after Johnson completes his round.
Johnson had a strong final round, and he won by three shots. After completing 36 holes in one day, Dustin Johnson said: "I'm in pretty good shape, so the physical part's no problem."
At the US Open 2015, Johnson missed a three-foot putt on the final hole at Chambers Bay.
Rory McIlroy, the former champion, and third-ranked golfer missed his first cut in a major championship since the 2013 Open Championship at Muirfield. Rory McIlroy double-bogeyed the final hole and missed the cut by two shots after an opening round. Later on, Roy McIlroy said: “Honestly I’ve been struggling with my swing, even in the practice rounds a little bit. I know what I’m doing, but it’s hard to change it out there.”
