A simple smile can make someone's day, but what is the secret of the perfect smile. Believe it or not, it's not all about dental hygiene and perfect teeth. According to dentists, the crucial factor is the position of teeth, in relation to the eyes. Those with a beautiful smile like Julia Roberts, have eyes and teeth more closely in line.
A team of researchers did a simple internet search, using the word "the ideal smile" or "the best smile," while focusing on photos of Hollywood celebrities.
Researchers selected 108 pictures (32 male and 62 female) of Hollywood stars and 200 photographs of dental students.
Using computer software, they calculated was the line of the teeth parallel to the line of the pupils. While examining photos, researchers suggest there is a difference in angle between those two lines.
The lead researcher, Dr. Vasiliki Koidou said: "It was concluded that celebrities identified as having a superior smile have significantly smaller smile angulation discrepancies when compared with dental students."
Results suggest that the attractive smile is a combination of facial symmetry and not just perfect teeth. Moreover, researchers have proved that women have the greater facial symmetry than men. The findings are in line with previous studies, confirming that people prefer symmetrical faces.
